It is always fun and exciting to redecorate a room in the home. It is a refreshing way to mix things up in your life. With this being said, some rooms are easier to decorate than others. Bedrooms, living rooms, and dining rooms, for example, allow a person a good deal of freedom because there aren’t as many considerations to make with regard to piping and appliances.

However, kitchens and bathrooms can be notoriously daunting when it comes to giving them an interior facelift. Old bathrooms in particular typically require inspections to ensure that things are up to code. Additionally, it is often necessary to hire a professional to aid you in any changes you choose to make. If you are renting your living space, carrying out significant alterations to the bathroom is simply out of the question. Luckily, no matter your budget or circumstances, there are plenty of fun and inspiring ways to make your old bathroom shine!

Bright taps and accessories

One way to revamp your old bathroom without having to spend a fortune or do anything too drastic is to incorporate bright taps and accessories. You can add a funky towel rack, vibrantly coloured linens, or even a groovy tap like this one by KOŁODZIEJ & SZMYT PROJEKTOWANIE WNĘTRZ. If your bathroom already has a bit of a retro feel, this will help you to enhance it. In fact, we recommend embracing some of the more vintage elements of your bathroom's décor as this look is quite trendy right now.

Alternatively, if the problem in your bathroom is that the walls and floors look a bit drab, adding a colourful bathmat or patterned curtain can truly make a world of difference. Better yet, combining multiple bright and colourful accessories can transform the look of your bathroom without even having to consult a professional!

More white is better

If you’re looking to make an aesthetic change that will last longer in order to avoid ending up in this same predicament in the future, we recommend going with white as much as possible. This goes for the walls, ceilings, appliances, and floors in your bathroom. You are less likely to feel that a white bathroom is outdated because the colour is so timeless.

Instead of applying current trends to these areas, stick to incorporating them through accessories as we mentioned above. These are much easier to swap in and out as seasons change and styles pass. Plus, white will help make your bathroom feel larger as this colour is best at reflecting existing light and creating a perceived feeling of spaciousness. Combine your white bathroom aesthetic with a glass shower door and a mirror to enhance the sense of expansiveness.

Leave retro bathware in place

As we touched on this already a bit in the previous sections, we feel that the whole preserving the vintage elements of your bathroom thing could use a bit more explanation. Stylistic elements from the past always seem to pop up again in the form of vintage trends. At this time in particular, incorporating some vintage and antique styles into your interiors is especially trendy. By embracing the old school charm found in your bathroom, you can make it do some of the stylistic work for you.

Take this bathroom, for example, this sink fixture is absolutely gorgeous! We feel that there is no need to replace it. Scan over your bathroom and assess whether or not you have an item like this in your own bathroom. Perhaps you have a claw foot tub or even an antique metal towel rack. Play up these items by giving them a good clean, polish, or fresh coat of paint.

Coordinating with modern tiles

If you are hoping to make some significant changes to your bathroom, it can be a bit difficult to know which route to take. You’re probably looking for something that will refresh and revamp the old look but that won’t go out of style in the next few years. Luckily, there are a variety of options to choose from when it comes to tiling.

Tiling is a classic element of the bathroom that has existed for millennia. Of course, tiles take countless forms so there is something for everyone. With variety comes more difficulty in decisiveness, however. Therefore, we will give you some tips to point you in the right direction.

Modern tiles are great for making the bathroom feel updated and sophisticated. Two popular varieties of modern tiling are metro tiles like the ones pictured in this bathroom and concrete tiles. You might also consider opting for tiles in unconventional shapes like hexagonal tiles. Stick to white if your bathroom is on the small side.

Mirrors with classic frames

A mirror will not only help to make your bathroom appear more spacious, it is also a great tool for adding a bit of glitz and glam to your surrounding. Mirrors are typically viewed as essential aspects of the bathroom, so you might as well make them work double duty as decorative objects!

While you don’t have to go with a gold-framed mirror, there is something about the sense of classic charm one brings to the space. The gold-framed mirror will make your bathroom feel more elegant. Mirrors come in tons of different shapes and styles so you’re bound to find something to suit your tastes if gold isn’t for you. We also love the idea of pairing multiple mirrors together like we can see in this example. Doing so will create a truly unique look in your bathroom.

Just cover the floor with other material

Finally, another more intensive way to make your bathroom feel revitalised is to take to the floors. Floors—particularly in bathrooms—can undergo a good deal of strain that causes them to look a bit shabby. We recommend having your floor checked for water damage routinely, especially if you just moved into an older home.

As long as everything checks out, you can proceed to cover the floor with a new material. This option can be altogether cheaper than tearing out the old one and starting anew. Some floor covering options include tiling, concrete, or laminate like we see in this example. Of course, you could also go with real wood, but we find that laminate can deal a bit better when exposed to moisture as long as it is sealed well.
