Finding the right kitchen floor is not always easy because you often have the feeling that you have to choose between a beautiful design and the functionality. But the good news is that's not always the case.

When flooring a kitchen, you should consider how the material will endure foot traffic and cleanup. Because the fact is, unlike the living room where you can sit and relax, the kitchen is a place where grease splashes, water stains, food falls and, in the worst case, even drop objects such as cooking spoons or even pots, that can damage kitchen floorboards.

We have looked at different flooring for the kitchen, and have some great selections for you to chose from that are both durable and stylish. Let's take a look!

1. Tile kitchen floors

Tiles belong to the classic kitchen floors. In most kitchens you'll find the classic white ceramic tiles, like this example. This rather simple design, of course, does not satisfy everyone's taste. But fortunately, the selection of tiles is actually significantly larger. For example, you can opt for colorful or wild-patterned motifs. The look of the tiles should, however, suit the style of the kitchen and ensure a harmonious overall appearance.

But why do you like tiles in the kitchen? This is mainly due to the fact that these are particularly durable and easy to clean. We also suggest investing in tiles that will last longer and should be glazed to make them more resistant. And if a tile breaks, it can be easily replaced. Using tiles for kitchen floors is another great way to prevent water and heat damage and can also be used to install a heating system if you live in cooler regions.

2. PVC kitchen floors

Just as popular as tiles is using PVC for kitchen floorboards. Its an affordable option, fast and easy to install and at the same time resistant and easy to clean. Thanks to dense, welded joints, this floor covering can be cleaned particularly well. Since PVC is also shock-absorbing, it can hold extra weight like heavy foot traffic. Here, too, it is important to set the value to a certain scale.

PVC for floors in your kitchen, are also generally known as vinyl floors, are mainly made of stone salt and petroleum as well as natural fillers such as chalk and limestone. They do not contain any serious chemicals, heavy metal or lead. And as far as design diversity is concerned, the choice of colors and structures is extremely large. If the vinyl is foamed, for example, a perfectly imitated tile look is achieved, like this stunning example.

3. Linoleum kitchen floors

Unlike PVC, linoleum is one of the so-called natural floor coverings. It consists of natural raw materials such as linseed oil, cork or wood flour and jute. Thanks to this clever material combination, this flooring for kitchens is non-slip, antistatic and easy to care for. If you like something more unusual in the design, Linoleum also has a lot of colorful models.

It is important for this kitchen floor covering to be professionally laid. A special linoleum adhesive is necessary for this. In addition, a highly abrasion-resistant, silky-matte glaze can prevent water penetrating into the covering to rot the material. If the ground is immaculate, there is nothing to hinder a decade of use. Because of its natural composition and a simple cleaning, with which the soil can be hygienically clean, linoleum is best suited for allergy sufferers.

4. A wood kitchen floor

A wood kitchen floor has long since been a favourite. It is warm, good for the room climate and ensures a comfortable atmosphere. Which makes an ideal option when considering flooring for your kitchen.

While the wood fits perfectly for rustic kitchens, it sets an exciting contrast to industrial kitchen styles as well. In addition, the individual color and grain of each wood brings vitality into otherwise rather sterile space. However, the natural material is not particularly hard-wearing. A surface seal is necessary in order to avoid minor quirks such as scratches or water stains.

A certain mindfulness and regular care are therefore essential when choosing a wooden floor in the kitchen. And if you put a dining table including chairs in the kitchen, you should apply felt pads to spare the floor. Our furnishing tip: When choosing the wood to put contrasts and a dark wood combine only with bright kitchens and differently.

5. Laminate kitchen flooring

An alternative to real wood floors is laminate. This is significantly more durable and affordable because it is merely a layer-like connection of different wood parts such as chips and fibers. At high temperatures they are compressed and finally provided with a digital print. Thanks to this digital imprint, many different designs are possible with the laminate. So you can opt for a colorful look or a deceptively genuine wood imitation.

When cleaning laminate kitchen floorboards, make sure that it is only dampened and not wet-wiped. If the soil is too moist, there is a risk of swelling and permanent damage. In addition, falling objects can leave cracks in the material, which can only be laboriously repaired.

6. Natural stone as a kitchen floor

Natural stone is an excellent material for kitchen floors, as it is widely known to be extremely sturdy. The natural material is resistant to water and solvents, and is therefore a match for the stress in the kitchen. Depending on your taste, you can opt for the natural stone, which best suits the kitchen equipment and your own requirements.

If you decide for dark granite, you have chosen one of the hardest and most sturdy stones. Travertine is a porous limestone, which has a surprisingly dense structure and provides sand-colored variations. Particularly popular and popular are marble floors. However, this natural stone is much more sensitive than, for example, granite and therefore requires special care. For example, stains and splashes should be removed as quickly as possible to avoid a permanent imprint.
