Sundays are for rest, but really what's more relaxing than tinkering with a couple of fabulous craft projects in the garden? Whether it's arranging your plants, setting the atmosphere, or working on a couple of whimsical ideas with the kids, we've got some fun ways to spend your free time that will also leave your garden looking fantastic.

It can often feel like we're too busy to work on projects around the home, or maybe it all feels too expensive, but here at homify we're going to set out to change your mind. The ideas we're going to look at today are incredibly simple, very affordable, and will get your creative juices flowing, and we promise you'll be itching to get into the garden every spare moment you have. Plus when it's all done, you get to while away the hours in your new beautified garden.

So let's get busy!

1. Upgrade your fence

The garden fence is one of those things we don't give a lot of thought to, but it's appearance can really change the way we see our garden. Consider making some repairs if necessary, giving it a good clean, and then painting it a new colour to lend your garden a whole new atmosphere!

2. Repaint your chairs

Outdoor furniture tends to get pretty worn out by the elements, and that's if it wasn't already just an old chair that you threw outside in the first place! You'll be surprised at what you can do with some spray paint, so choose some colours that fit the decor, and reinvigorate your old patio furniture. The results can be fun and quirky, or cool and elegant like this classic black wicker piece.

3. Make some cushions

If you're the creative type, and you're not afraid to power up the sewing machine, then consider injecting some joy into your garden furniture by making some vibrant new pillowcases! It's a good idea to use weather resistant materials if possible, but it's more important that you just have fun, after all you can always make more.

4. Build a birdhouse

There's nothing more classic than a birdhouse in the backyard, and we just know you're going to love building your own! A great project to work on with the kids, you'll give them some useful skills, and bring them closer to nature. Plus it's oh so simple, because you can build it in whatever style you like, as we can see with this unique triangular bird home! Fill your garden with the beautiful sound of satisfied birds, you won't regret it.

5. Build a flower wall with wooden pallets

What would we do without the humble wooden pallet? There's really no limit to what you can use them for, from beds, to tables, to fabulous flower walls that allow you to fill your garden with colour. This rustic piece is charming, and super simple to build, and we love how they've hung candles for a little extra ambience when the sun goes down!

6. Garden lights

And speaking of ambience, look at this absolutely stunning use of mason jars to fill your garden with the glow of fireflies. Well actually they're LED lights, which are a little more reliable, but the effect is no less magical. We love the idea of recycling mason jars, it's cheap, eco-friendly, and looks just adorable. You can even reuse old Christmas lights.

7. Benches from wooden pallets

We told you wooden pallets were versatile! Building furniture with pallets is super easy, but if you're not the DIY type, don't be shy about getting our professionals involved! This corner piece looks fantastic with those vivacious purple cushions, and they've even added a coffee table, ready for a big jug of iced tea.

8. Create a canopy for your deck

Constructing an awning is easy, but essential if you want to be dining outside in your garden. Shading you from the midday sun, or keeping you dry in a spring drizzle, the canopy is a must have for any al fresco fanatics.

9. Playful decor for the young ones

Gardens are great for kids, and the more they play outside, the more quiet time you get inside! Fill your garden with fun decorations to entertain your kids for hours, plus DIY projects will provide you with some quality time together.

We hope you loved these ideas for your garden, but if you're looking for more, you know we've got you!
