The winds of change have been a-blowing. This week, the hot topic has been kitchens. Small, large, modern, vintage – if there's a possibility to check out a cook-spot, you want to know about it! In fact, three out of our top five articles were kitchen-themed, but did any of them make it to the number one spot? Let's find out…

1. Minimal houses with cosy insides

Ancient Roman poet Horace urged us to “avoid greatness,” because as he explained, “in a cottage there may be more real happiness than kings or their favourites enjoy.” Though this advice of his is not taken too seriously, we think there is merit in his suggestion, especially when thought in the context of the small homes that we are going to show you today.

All of them completely shun any kind of ostentation. They are utterly minimal on the outside and very cosy indoors In spite of their extremely small size, they are fantastic examples of modern family homes. Take a look…

2. Separating the kitchen and living room

Open plan living is favoured by many interior designers, and we have to admit we're big fans of it ourselves. We love that free flowing energy between the cook and the guests in the living room. However, we do sometimes want to separate those spaces, even just a little bit.

Whether it's to hide those dishes that are piling up, or when you want to keep that special family recipe a secret, there are some really creative solutions that can help you create boundaries between spaces while adding a bit more privacy–and we at homify have them right here! Take a look…

3. Kitchen wall ideas for Malaysian homes

We all want our kitchens to be as nice as possible; if your kitchen is right, cooking, eating and socialising will also be right. However, kitchen walls are some of the trickiest in the home to decorate, because they often have more complex angles or are wonky sizes, due to cabinetry and kitchen appliances.

For this reason, homify created a list of 10 ideas for covering or enhancing kitchen all types of kitchen walls, from the ultra large and empty kitchen wall to a smaller wall you have been meaning to turn into something for a while. Check it out!

4. Cool courtyards

Nature is our inspiration and we have a tendency to want it very close to us. Whether we have a small garden the front of the house or in the backyard, our connection to nature is important because it keeps us close to the energy and beauty of plants while also keeping us in tune to the environment around us. Some of us are lucky enough to live in a fairly wooded area where we can get all of these advantages and then some, but for some, this luxury is simply not possible.

If you find sanctuary in the wilderness and want even just a bit of that energy in your home, then take a look at these courtyard ideas and get inspired!

5. Small and adorable kitchens

With real estate prices on the rise pretty much across the board, most of us have had to at least consider downsizing. Some might do this simply because of budget, whilst others may prioritise location over size. Whatever your reasoning, decorating a smaller space and making it functional can feel like quite the challenge. Still, we believe that virtually any space can be made to feel like home.

Once you embark on the task of working within a constrained space, you realise there are actually plenty of strategies that can effectively maximise the space you have to work with. Ultimately, it's better to just embrace the smaller space. A little inspiration can be helpful in this regard. That’s why we compiled a list of 10 small but oh-so cosy kitchens—enjoy!

That's all for now! We'll be back next week with more of your top picks. In the meantime, stay tuned to homify for more interior inspiration.
